The Federation’s Heritage Panel is concerned with all aspects of South Africa’s philatelic heritage and “body of knowledge” and acts as advisor with regard to philatelic collections which are public property and are housed in governmental institutions like museums and archives.

It maintains a database of these holdings and provides advice on mounting, displaying and storing such collections.

The panel acts as an advisor to the South African Heritage Resources Agency, and maintains contact with philatelic heritage institutions in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. It has been instrumental in obtaining archival material from abroad, preserves a number of important records and reference material and is overseer of the Federation’s library held at the Sandton public library in Johannesburg.

A current project is the spearheading of a private sector partnership for the proposed Post Office museum.
